The
Congregational Care and Fellowship Committee
cares for
members who are ill or shut-in, manages the prayer ring and
plans fellowship events. Caring people are needed to help
with this important work.
Congregational Dinners take place after church monthly
or bi-monthly and everyone looks forward to the pot-luck
menu. Some dinners are planned to celebrate special
occasions like high school graduation or to welcome new
members. Sometimes we just feel the need to have a
get-together.
Prime Time Senior Ministry luncheons are served on
the first Tuesday of every month. A program of interest to
seniors is provided. Prime Time Tours are offered several
times each year for travel. Local excursions are also
planned as needed and wanted.
Men's Prayer
Breakfast meets every Thursday at 6:00 a.m. Men from our
church and the community gather for a devotional and a
delicious breakfast.
Through
Lifeblood, donations of blood made by our membership
help to cover the expenses of any member who needs blood.
Other special
events in our church include Advent Sunday, Breakfast
with St. Nicholas, Promotion Sunday and Easter Egg Hunt.
Presbyterian
Women, the organization of women in the church, includes
the fellowship, service, and study activities. Small groups
called circles meet monthly at the church. The larger group,
including all of the women, meets together several times a
year. We have one morning and one evening circle. Each
circle meeting includes Bible Study, prayer fellowship, and
suggestions for service.
Men of the
Church get together each month for a Steak dinner,
fellowship, Bible study and mission update. Men of the
Church meets on the 2nd Monday of each month at 6:00
p.m.
Local and
Foreign Missions of First Presbyterian Church supports
local (in Hernando and other areas of the United States) and
foreign missions. We helped to form Interfaith, the Hernando
Area Council on Poverty. We serve local needy individuals
through several annual programs - "Dress A Child" for
school, Thanksgiving baskets, Christmas baskets, and through
periodic contributions to the food pantry. Our Share account
assists needy persons with food, utilities, medicine, and
rent subsidy. Each month members contribute two cents per
meal they eat for a food ministry in Africa. Our annual
Breakfast with St. Nicholas helps support the local Palmer
Home for Children. We help to support Dr. Sue Makin in her
ministry as a medical missionary of the Presbyterian Church
USA to Africa. We contribute regularly to the Hernando
DeSoto Habitat for Humanity affiliate.
